With a like-minded band one as-yet fine day
He got in that wagon and drove it away.
But Clip saw them leaving and gave out a shout
So loud that the Town Guard came running out.
When that cowardly man saw the Town Guard coming
He leapt from the wagon and left town running.
The town guards were happy to rescue the wagon,
And promptly returned to their half-empty flagons.
But Clip was enraged that that horrible man
Should have dared such a deed, and so he ran
Waving his sword and uttering threats
Not thinking what he would do if they met.
The man turned to face him, the light in his eyes
As deadly as lightning's grim flash in the skies.
He reached for his sword, his deadly stance
That of a coward who sees a good chance.
I wish I could sing that Clip was victorious,
Defeating that villain, or something so glorious.
But that man struck and killed him, he made him to die
And on Clip's poor body he carved out the Eye.
Then knowing he now was a wanted man,
He fled to a distant, a southern land
And with him he took the mithril necklace,
Clip's gift from the Lady, so bright and precious.
